Fresnillo to Acquire Canada’s Probe Mining

Mexico-based silver leading producer Fernillo announced its intentions to acquire Canada-based Probe Gold. The transaction, valued at CA$780 million (US$560 million), would mark Fresnillo’s incursion into Canada. In other news, by late October, mining and metals firms across North America raised about US$2.9 billion through 185 equity deals, marking the strongest month for public share offerings in the sector since November 2013.

Fresnillo to Acquire Canada’s Probe Mining

Leading producer Fresnillo entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Probe Gold for over CA$780 million. This acquisition marks Fresnillo's strategic entry into Canada. The primary asset in the transaction is Probe's 100%-owned Novador Gold Project in Quebec, which has a resource base of 8Moz of gold and the potential to produce over 200,000oz/y for more than 10 years.

Canadian Mining Companies Adopt Sustainable Mining Standard

Canadian-owned mining companies operating in Mexico have agreed to adopt the Towards Sustainable Mining (TSM) standard, a global framework aimed at improving ESG practices across the mining industry. Members of the Mining Executive Committee of CANCHAM formally signed an agreement to implement TSM across all stages of the mining process, from exploration to production and closure. The organization stated that participating companies will be obliged to gradually integrate the standard’s protocols.

The company also provided updates on permitting, a planned Preliminary Economic Assessment (PEA), and a potential asset spin-out, the company revealed in a letter to investors.
