Government Openness Drives Investors Back to Mexico: GRUMINEX
STORY INLINE POST
Q: Have you started to observe any signs of renewed investment confidence now that the new government is in place?
A: Since the new government took office, we have noticed a clear increase in requests for feasibility studies, technical visits, and preliminary engineering analyses. This suggests that investors are regaining interest in Mexico, but with a more strategic, meticulous, and structured approach. We see greater willingness to finance feasibility and pre-feasibility studies, a focus on projects integrating ESG criteria from the start, and increased interest in leveraging incentives and partnerships with national suppliers to strengthen the supply chain.
At GRUMINEX, we have adapted to this dynamic by offering engineering development that integrates geotechnical studies, topography, civil design, concrete, structural work, and electrical design from the outset. This approach provides investors with greater certainty regarding costs, timelines, and regulatory compliance.
Q: With new projects beginning to take shape, what are the main needs you are seeing on the ground?
A: The most pressing needs are agility in obtaining permits, legal certainty to encourage investment, and early integration of technical studies to avoid rework. As highlighted in CAMIMEX’s 2025 report, these challenges affect not only national production and investment but also employment, regional development, and the legal certainty crucial for an industry that is key to Mexico’s economic well-being.
We have observed a more conservative approach to timelines and budgets, paired with more robust and sustainable planning. This sets the stage for stronger, more resilient projects in the medium term.
Q: Looking ahead, what kind of transition or shift in mining projects do you anticipate under the current government’s policies?
A: We expect projects to focus on clean technologies, strengthening domestic supply, complying with international and national standards, and enhancing social and environmental plans. Companies that adopt these strategies early will be better positioned to secure financing and permits. Engineering firms can play a critical role in driving competitiveness by ensuring compliance with quality and safety standards, integrating sustainable solutions, and optimizing costs. At GRUMINEX, we have proven that when investors see projects comply with NOM, IEC, and IEEE regulations from the start, confidence increases and decision-making accelerates.
Q: What are the biggest challenges you face when designing electrical networks for mining projects, and how does GRUMINEX’s multidisciplinary approach help you overcome them effectively?
A: The main challenge is ensuring reliable networks in remote areas under adverse conditions. Our multidisciplinary approach, which combines civil, structural, electrical, and social/environmental engineering, allows us to anticipate problems and optimize designs from the start, reducing field adjustments and improving overall project efficiency.
We also strictly adhere to Mexican and international standards, including NOM, IEC, and IEEE, through technical reviews. We also use BIM and 3D modeling to detect interferences before construction, particularly in process plants, which optimizes materials and minimizes risks. Environmental and social permits are reviewed in collaboration with clients to determine the most effective project routes.
Q: What were the primary challenges you encountered in planning access roads for a remote project, and how did you address them?
A: The main challenges were complex terrain and distance from existing infrastructure. We addressed these issues through high-precision topographic surveys and digital modeling, evaluating alternative routes based on technical, environmental, and safety criteria.
We designed routes that minimized earthworks and utilized areas already authorized by local communities, reducing environmental impact, earthmoving costs, and permitting requirements. Safety considerations, such as maximum slopes and turning radio for heavy machinery, were incorporated into every proposal.
Q: What major market trends do you foresee shaping the mining industry for the remainder of 2025, and how is GRUMINEX positioning itself to align with these trends?
A: We see three major trends shaping the industry: automation and digitalization, the transition to clean energy, and strengthening local supply chains. GRUMINEX is aligning its services to incorporate technological and sustainable solutions from the design stage, ensuring that projects are both efficient and compliant. We have also expanded our collaborative services to include topography, soil engineering studies, BIM implementation across all projects, and training programs for our team. These initiatives will allow GRUMINEX to grow while providing differentiated value to the mining sector.
