This is the Week in Mining!

Luca Mining Drills Campo Morado for the First Time in a Decade

Luca Mining has announced promising results from its first underground drilling program at the Campo Morado mine since 2014, revealing high grades of silver, gold, and zinc in previously untested areas. The drilling has uncovered mineralization not included in the current mine plan, with further drilling planned to explore similar zones. In addition to underground drilling, the company has launched a surface drilling campaign to explore the broader Campo Morado District and expand known deposits, with 38 priority targets identified across its land package.

Defiance Silver to Acquire Green Earth Metals

Defiance Silver has signed a non-binding letter of intent to acquire Green Earth Metals (GEMS), a private company with copper-gold-silver-molybdenum projects in Mexico, as part of its strategy to expand its mining portfolio in the country. GEMS holds three drill-permitted projects in the Sonoran Desert, located near major mining operations. The acquisition will strengthen Defiance Silver’s asset base and exploration potential. The deal involves Defiance issuing approximately 4.9 million shares to GEMS shareholders, with completion subject to due diligence, shareholder approval, and regulatory conditions.

Oroco Resource Shows Santo Tomas Project to Mexican Authorities

Oroco Resource has engaged with Sinaloa state and Mexican federal officials to advance its Santo Tomas copper project, with authorities recognizing its potential to create significant local jobs. The company held meetings with key figures, including Sinaloa Governor Rubén Rocha, and federal officials to discuss the project's development and its inclusion in Mexico's Key Development Projects Registry. The project has already created 100 direct and 20 indirect jobs, with projections indicating the creation of over 2,400 jobs during its operation, alongside a potential US$1.4 billion investment in Sinaloa.

Transparency, Governance to Enhance ESG Performance: WSP

WSP's recent acquisitions, including Golder and Calibre, are aligned with its strategy to expand beyond mining consulting and focus on large capital projects, particularly in the mining sector, where it has a strong global presence. In Mexico, WSP’s core services are in tailings facilities, mine closure, geotechnics, and water management, providing comprehensive support across the entire mining lifecycle, from exploration to mine closure. The company also prioritizes strong governance, especially in water stewardship and community relations, helping clients navigate social licenses and ensure transparent environmental practices.
