After President López Obrador appointed the Governor of Sonora, Alfonso Durazo as the project manager for Litio Para México (LitioMx), the first Director General of the company was named: Pablo Taddei, who according to López Obrador is a highly-qualified professional equipped with the relevant experience to lead the company.

During his daily morning press conference, President López Obrador stated that he had decided and announced that Taddei would be appointed as the first Director of LitioMx. The decision is in line with López Obrador’s intention to create a hub of renewable energy in Sonora since Taddei and Durazo are both from the state where LitioMx will be headquartered. “We are developing a plan to transform Sonora into a renewable energy power production state, as well as a producer of lithium batteries to boost the automotive industry in Sonora,” López Obrador said.

According to López Obrador, he opted to give a “young man” the opportunity and responsibility of managing the company. He highlighted that Taddei is well-prepared for the position. “We have decided that a young man completing his Ph.D. in Environment and Renewable Energy, I believe at Harvard, is to be the company’s director,” López Obrador added.

Taddei is the son of Sonora’s delegate to the Ministry of Wellbeing. He holds a degree in Industrial Engineering and Systems from the University of Sonora. After finishing his studies, he worked for a manufacturing company, Tico Electronics, as well worked as a professor of the Introduction to Renewable Energies course at the university. He also has a master’s degree in Sustainable Systems from Harvard University. After finishing his master's, Taddei entered the UN, where he worked in areas related to the Sustainable Development program, but he quit to join the University of Michigan joint project with the University of Sonora as a researcher. In 2018, Taddei started his Ph.D. in Environmental Health at Harvard University, but when he is expected to finish his studies is unclear.

According to the decree that created LitioMx, the president has the authority to appoint or remove the Director General through the suggestion of the Minister of Energy, which heads the managing board of LitioMx.

The Director General must set out the company’s annual program and generate its performance reports, as well as establish, promote and foster relations with other national and international parties and enable control systems within the company, among key responsibilities.
