Radius Gold has announced that their completed rock sampling at the Maricela project has shown both high grade gold-silver vein targets and wide stockwork and breccia zones. The combination of multiple intersecting vein systems, alongside the mineralized stockworks on the vein margins, result in large breccia and stockwork zones at the vein intersections and compelling drill targets.

The Maricela project is located in Sonora, Mexico, 18 kilometers south of the giant Cananea copper mine. Bruce Smith, President and CEO of Radius Gold, says the property has never been drilled or systematically explored and it sits right on the margin of one of the world’s largest poultry copper deposits. Maricela has a number of pits and underground mine workings where historically; high-grade material was mined in the 1950’s and 1960’s and shipped to a processing plant in Cananea. The project has excellent infrastructure, with good road access and internal roads, nearby power, water and low rolling terrain.

The Maricela project has an epithermal silver & gold mineralized vein system extending approximately 1.5 kilometers long by 300 meters wide, within which multiple veins, stockworks and breccias appear at intersections which have exposed widths of over 25 meters. Recent mapping and sampling identified six major veins with combined strike of approximately of 5 kilometers.  Radius’s geological team believes the recent geochemical results demonstrate potential for both high grade silver gold veins and bulk tonnage lower grade mineralization that could be amenable to open pit mining.

The main vein of the project, called Virgin de Plata, is intersected by at least 4 veins forming a horse tail structure of intersecting veins. The veins are generally between 1 and 3 meters wide and contain massive quartz with mineralized stockworks and brecciated veins selvages that usually extend over 10 meters across the vein zones. At these intersections, larger stockwork zones are observed with zones up to 25.3m grading 0.31 g/t gold and 62 g/t silver.

Smith explained they just started to explore Maricela and to date they have documented eight major veins with a combined strike length 5 kilometers that has the potential of high-grade vein systems extending to great depth below and they are beginning the plan phase of the drilling.
