This September, WSP announced the acquisition of Wood’s Environment and Infrastructure (E&I) group. On October 27, it celebrated the opening of its new office in Chihuahua, Mexico. Backed by both the acquisition and its office expansion, the company is further developing its environmental leadership, especially in Mexico’s prolific mining industry.

The WSP-owned E&I area provides services regarding engineering, consulting, environmental permitting, inspection and supervision, as well as environmental management for clients in the industrial, infrastructure, government, oil and gas, energy, water and mining sectors. It does so chiefly in North American countries, but also in Latin America and Europe.

“One of the main reasons to acquire Wood’s E&I group was that it is perfectly aligned with WSP’s Global Strategic Plan 2022-2024. In this regard, we added around 6,000 working professionals in more than 10 countries to the operation, expanding our leadership position in key sectors like environment, infrastructure, water, power and renewable energy toward a greater impact as we prepare our cities and environment for the future,” said Daniel Servigna, Mining Branch Manager of Mining, WSP E&I.

The acquisition enables WSP to provide its clients with multidisciplinary services on a global scale. By adding a group from a leading consultancy firm like Wood to WSP, the combined expertise will add value to clients through a stronger service capacity, global reach and an extensive portfolio of technical experts. Together, WSP and E&I will prove to be an unparalleled consultant and service provider for its clients in all sectors.

“The combination of our groups will increase the opportunities to address the bigger environmental and social challenges of our clients, while at the same offering more opportunities to our collaborators,” added Servigna. Moreover, he said the company will maintain its passion for and dedication to security, technical excellence and the quality of deliverables.

Although the E&I brand is now a part of WSP, the quality of its services will not change, the Master of Ceremonies, Ing. Eduardo Ang Lugo, emphasized. Furthermore, WSP and members of E&I have worked together on various projects in the past, so the ties between the two firms are already profound. The sole changes, therefore, will be positive: The environmental task force will be expanded considerably and cover a wider range of skills and geographies. “We are optimistic about a noticeably positive change so that the combined resources will help satisfy our clients’ needs and challenges,” said Ang Lugo.

The ceremony was furthermore attended by Jesús Gilberto Elias Ogaz, Deputy Director of Industry at the Department of Economic Development and Competitiveness of Chihuahua.

WSP is one of the world’s leading professional service companies. Its main objective is to prepare global cities and the environment for the challenges of the future. The company provides strategic, engineering and design assessments to clients in the transportation, infrastructure, environment, construction, energy, water and mining sectors. The 63,000 employees of the company work together toward the shared purpose of creating a positive and lasting impact in the communities they work with through a culture of innovation, integrity and inclusion.
