Green Corridors, a newly launched public-private logistics venture, has received White House approval to build, maintain, and operate the International Freight Transportation System (IFTS) — a cross-border project designed to directly link Laredo, Texas, with Monterrey, Nuevo Leon. Approved on June 9, the megaproject aims to reduce severe congestion at border crossings and throughout the heavily trafficked corridors of both cities, while enhancing security and resilience across the supply chain.

“This project represents a paradigm shift in transportation with our largest trading partner. By separating freight from public traffic, we can significantly reduce transportation costs and solve serious congestion and safety issues,” says Mitch Carlson, CEO, Green Corridors.

The Green Corridors system will deploy a high-tech network composed of elevated guideways, automated terminals, and an autonomous shuttle fleet, all coordinated by a proprietary logistics software suite. The initiative has secured engagement from key US agencies, including the Department of State and Customs and Border Protection, alongside international stakeholders.

According to a White House official quoted in the Wall Street Journal, the project could “reduce wait times for cross-border travel, improve supply-chain resilience and create additional capacity to support growing trade with Mexico.”

The Green Corridors initiative is entirely privately funded. Its business model is built on fees collected from freight users of the system, with backing from a robust network of private-sector investors and innovators. These include the Swinbank family office, Druker Capital, and the Chang Robotics Fund.

Groundbreaking is expected within the next 36 months, with full operations slated to launch by 2031. If successful, the Green Corridors' IFTS could become the most advanced overland freight infrastructure deployment in North America.
