Maersk, Einride to Partner on Largest Ever Truck Electrification

A.P. Moller - Maersk announced a collaboration with Sweden’s tech company Einride, which will provide its technology platform to 300 of Maersk’s electric trucks that will be distributed in select US cities between 2023 and 2025. This partnership supports Maersk’s commitment to become net-zero by 2040.

This order is an important step in building our end-to-end, landside decarbonization foundation while also addressing customers’ inland transportation pain points. Maersk has a comprehensive decarbonization plan in motion for our ocean activities which represent 93 percent of all company-related emissions. Einride is a technology company that provides freight mobility solutions and has a technology platform that enables shippers to meet both their ESG and SLA targets at a competitive price. Einride’s connected e-trucks will be assembled in the US following predetermined specifications. The order follows Maersk’s investment in Einride’s Series B in May 2021, with the two companies now establishing a partnership framework for future locations outside the US, reported Business Wire.

The alliance will allow for the electrification of over 1 million shipments, the companies said, as it includes 300 connected e-trucks, 150 charging stations, connectivity services and an operating system. “This is one of the biggest deals ever made to make transportation sustainable,” said Robert Falck, CEO, Einride. The road freight industry is responsible for close to 8 percent of all global CO2 emissions, he added.

Maersk continues working on integrated container logistics to simplify its customers’ supply chains, according to the company. Maersk, which operates in 130 countries and employs about 95,000 people, is also working to increase female participation in its managerial and vice-presidential positions, said Alexandra Loboda, Managing Director Mexico and Middle America, Maersk, as reported by MBN.

Maersk Orders 110 Volvo VNR Electric Trucks

Maersk also announced an order for 110 Volvo VNR Electric Class 8 trucks, which will be delivered by the end of 1Q2023 to support increased demand from customers. The new order increased the commitment to 126 units, following the Aug. 2021 order of 16 Volvo e-trucks.
