Mexico City-Queretaro Train to Link Four Public Transit Systems
The Mexico City-Queretaro Train project has officially begun. The train is set to benefit an estimated population of 6 million people and will complete the 226km journey in just two hours, linking key regions across Mexico City, the State of Mexico, Hidalgo, and Queretaro.
The new railway line will serve key municipalities along its path, including Huehuetoca, State of Mexico, along with occasional stops at Praderas del Potrero, and full stations at Tula, Hidalgo, and San Juan del Rio. There is also a proposed stop between Los Heroes and the Queretaro Airport before reaching Queretaro city.
In Mexico City, passengers will begin their journey at Buenavista Terminal, which integrates with the Suburban Train (Buenavista-Cuautitlan), Metro Line B, Metrobus Lines 1, 3, and 4, Ecobici, and other urban transit systems. In Queretaro, the train will connect to local transport options including the QroBus.
The final station, La Corregidora in Queretaro, is set to offer a comprehensive range of passenger services. The station will include a ticket office, waiting area, entry/exit turnstiles, public restrooms, locker services, a pick-up and drop-off bay, federal service counters, and parking for about 100 vehicles. It will also support public transport connections with simultaneous access for up to 12 buses, each 12m in length.
This railway initiative is part of ARTF’s broader strategy to enhance mobility across the country by offering efficient, multimodal alternatives. Beyond reducing travel times, the train is expected to boost regional economic, social, and industrial development.
