Nuevo Leon Metro Projects Reach Nearly 60% Completion
The Ministry of Mobility and Urban Planning has announced significant advances in the construction of Monterrey’s Metro Lines 4 and 6, as well as in the installation of secure bus shelters and urban furniture across the metropolitan area.
“Line 4 presents 57.3% progress, Line 6 is at 61.9%, and overall we have reached 59.6%, while the extension shows 18.7%,” says Hernán Villarreal, Minister of Mobility and Urban Planning.
Between Aug. 8 and Sept. 14, Line 4 registered 57.3% progress, while Line 6 reached 61.9%, bringing the combined global advancement of both lines to 59.6%. Additionally, the extension of Line 6 stands at 18.7%.
The works are backed by 67 active construction fronts, involving 3,408 workers and technicians supported by 649 pieces of machinery.
Alongside the Metro expansion, the state is advancing a complementary project to modernize public transport waiting areas. With an investment of MX$100 million (US$5.4 million), the plan aims to install 500 secure bus shelters across 11 strategic corridors within six months.
So far, the initiative shows 15% progress and is expected to benefit 11.5 million passengers annually. “The goal is to install 5,000 shelters across 11 corridors to benefit 11.5 million passengers per month,” says Villarreal.
The corridors under development include Garza Sada, Universidad–Sendero, Vasconcelos–Santa Catarina, Eloy Cavazos, Rómulo Garza, San Jeronimo, Juarez, Escobedo, and Apodaca, among others. The first completed corridor connects Eloy Cavazos with Pablo Livas and Benito Juarez in the municipalities of Guadalupe and Juarez.
