Samsara Enhances Fleet Efficiency with New Smart Trailer Features

Samsara is introducing new features in its Smart Trailers solution, which were designed to provide valuable insights and optimize fleet operations. With these capabilities, Samsara aims to help customers enhance trailer security, reduce maintenance costs, and improve fleet management.

Traditional asset tracking solutions often operate in isolated systems, making it difficult to act on critical data. Samsara’s Smart Trailers solution uses GPS tracking and IoT technology to provide real-time insights beyond what an average trailer tracker offers, providing information on trailer status, utilization, temperature, location, and security. Smart Trailers leverage these location data points to provide real-time alerts, geofence notifications, and detailed usage and trailer status data.

These tools enhance trailer security by utilizing GPS tracking devices to monitor crucial systems such as brakes, tires, and power. Real-time maintenance alerts help prevent road accidents, while continuous location tracking ensures trailers are always monitored to prevent unauthorized use.

The newly announced Smart Trailer features provide essential insights to improve efficiency, regulatory compliance, and operational safety. These new capabilities include:

• ATIS Monitoring: Detects tire pressure anomalies in real time, preventing blowouts, minimizing downtime, and ensuring regulatory compliance for safer fleet operations.

• Power Monitoring: Tracks trailer location even during power loss, issues “Motion Without Power” alerts, and automates power issue detection, enhancing safety and maintenance efficiency.

• Mismatch Alert: Sends real-time notifications if the wrong trailer is hitched, preventing dispatch errors, chain delays, and cargo damage.

• Asset Search: Enables real-time trailer location tracking via the Samsara Driver app, reducing yard search time and boosting productivity.

These features, combined with the existing Smart Trailer ABS Monitoring capabilities, provide a comprehensive view of trailer status, ensuring driver and community safety, enhancing regulatory compliance, and reducing costs
