Baker Hughes announces its Digital Solution, Cordant

Baker Hughes’ new digital solution, introduced in January 2023, aims to enhance efficiency and performance while reducing asset emissions, ultimately driving the long-term sustainability of its customers’ operations in the oil and gas industry. 

Cordant is a comprehensive suite of solutions aimed at optimizing industrial asset performance and management and process optimization. The suite integrates various digital offerings for hardware, software and service capabilities into a single, simplified user interface. The software was unveiled during the company’s annual meeting in Florencia, Italy. 

Lorenzo Simonelli, Chairman, President and CEO, Baker Hughes, stated that “Digital is redefining the limits of how the energy and industrial sectors can increase efficiency, operate predictably and ensure lower emissions in a sustainable manner.” 

The company's focus on sustainability is in line with industry trends, as companies are becoming more environmentally conscious and are prioritizing environmental, social, and governance (ESG) policies.  

“We have long recognized digital is a critical capability in taking energy forward and leading in the energy transition…our latest solution is a testament not only to the power of digital enablement but also to our ongoing commitment to driving more efficient, informed and sustainable operations for our customers and ourselves,” continued Simonelli.  

For the oil and gas industry, Cordant can help with process optimization, asset management, predictive maintenance and equipment monitoring and diagnostics.  

Furthermore, the Journal of Petroleum Technology reports that BP will use OnePM, Cordant’s asset strategy module, on various unspecified production facilities in the US Gulf of Mexico. Baker Hughes is already heavily present in this area.

Baker Hughes and BP have collaborated for the second time in four years. Following the first project, both companies are adamant about furthering the development of the Cordant platform by expanding its use to other regions operated under BP. 

Regarding the collaboration, Ganesh Ramaswamy, Executive Vice-President of Industrial and Energy Technology, Baker Hughes said that it “will help define new use cases, build out functionality and accelerate the journey towards more efficient and sustainable operations.”
