Q: How is MG Technical positioning itself in Mexico’s evolving oil and gas sector, given the increasing focus on expanding crude reserves and refinery upgrades?

A: MG Technical is leveraging its expertise in FEED studies, detailed engineering, and project management to support Mexico’s upstream and downstream developments. With extensive experience in front-end engineering, our goal is to provide cost-effective and robust solutions that align with the sector’s evolving needs.

Mexico faces the challenge of maintaining production as reserves decline and aging fields demand redevelopment. While investment in new projects is limited, this creates an opportunity for MG Technical to provide enhanced recovery solutions. Our expertise in offshore facilities, including floating production units and FPSOs, positions us to support both brownfield redevelopment and new offshore opportunities.

Q: The government announced its intentions for 30% of national production to come from partnerships with PEMEX. What opportunities do you see with this strategy?

A: This strategy creates opportunities for greater collaboration, whether with PEMEX or private operators, driving demand for specialized engineering services. MG Technical is well-positioned to support both through feasibility studies, FEED analysis, and infrastructure integration solutions. With experience working alongside international oil companies, we can contribute to ensuring projects are executed efficiently and in compliance with regulations.

Additionally, deepwater development, particularly in the Gulf of Mexico, holds significant potential due to unexplored blocks with promising reserves. However, success will depend on regulatory and geopolitical stability, investment incentives, and the adoption of advanced technologies for exploration and production.

Q: How do FEED studies contribute to the success of large-scale oil and gas projects in Mexico, especially considering the development of deepwater projects and the government's intention to enhance information on the Mexican subsoil?

A: MG Technical plays a key role in the upstream sector, specifically in the development of production platforms for deepwater projects. Our expertise lies in the engineering of essential equipment for fields going through exploration or development.

We can contribute to integrated projects by collaborating with companies like PEMEX. For instance, when exploring a specific block, we assess the required equipment and technologies needed for specific conditions, such as pressure and temperature. In this context, we ensure that our solutions are aligned with the project’s needs, contributing to the overall success of the exploration and production efforts.

Q: As energy projects in Mexico face increased scrutiny on efficiency and cost-effectiveness, how does MG Technical ensure its engineering solutions remain competitive?

A: We integrate modular design techniques and standardize our designs based on the specific type of unit. For example, this year, we aim to develop a standardized, modular design for Floating Production Units (FPUs) tailored for offshore platforms. This will reduce both costs and engineering time. Additionally, we are exploring partnerships with local companies in Mexico to enhance labor cost efficiency. By collaborating with Mexican firms, we can leverage local expertise and reduce reliance on more expensive international resources. One of my objectives is to form these alliances and transfer knowledge to support long-term industry development in Mexico. This approach will help manage CAPEX while building local expertise in the oil production sector.

Q: What are your main objectives for 2025?

A: Our focus is on expanding our presence in offshore and refining sectors in Mexico, either through a strategic partnership or directly as a company. Another priority is growing our client base, particularly among private companies working with PEMEX and international oil firms operating in Mexico.

Regarding client acquisition, my approach is largely organic. With over 20 years of experience in construction, design, engineering, and project execution, including semisubmersible drilling and production units, FPSOs, and storage and transfer vessels, I have built a strong professional network. Many business opportunities come from industry relationships, former employers, and colleagues who trust my expertise. Building long-term partnerships based on trust and collaboration is fundamental to our strategy, ensuring sustainable growth in the Mexican market.
