Mexico’s oil and gas industry is one of the key drivers of the country’s economy. Since the beginning of his administration, President López Obrador pledged to make its development a priority.

Mexico’s oil self-sufficiency has become one of the key aspects of the industry’s policy direction. The government recently inaugurated the Olmeca Refinery in Dos Bocas, Tabasco, one of President López Obrador’s star infrastructure projects, though it remains in its trial stages for now. Meanwhile, PEMEX worked to shake off declining oil production and boost refining by increasing the capacity at national refineries and acquiring the Deer Park refinery in Texas.

Furthermore, Mexico faces challenges regarding its national natural gas production. Recent data shared by the UN Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) showed Mexico has drastically decreased its natural gas production and is losing opportunities to invest in non-conventional resources. With natural gas becoming a key fuel for the global energy transition, strategies to address domestic natural gas production will become fundamental to the country’s energy security.

With decarbonization goals becoming more aggressive, the industry finds itself needing to reinvent and adapt to the future energy needs, as countries and industries are moving away from fossil fuels toward greener sources of energy.

To adapt and create resilient strategies, spaces to maintain a dialogue and foster understanding within the oil and gas industry are essential. These topics and more about the present and future of the Mexican energy sector will be discussed by decision-makers and key players at Mexico Oil & Gas Summit 2022. During the summit, key stakeholders will share their insight regarding these issues, making it an event you will not want to miss.

Mexico Business is proud to extend an invitation to the eleventh edition of the Mexico Oil & Gas Summit 2022, from Sept. 21 to 23, 2022. Throughout the three-day event, the industry’s most important leaders, investors, and decision-makers will gather to discuss the sector's future and develop new business opportunities.
