Integrating Chemical Solutions to Mexico: Isquisa
Integrating Chemical Solutions to Mexico: Isquisa
STORY INLINE POST
Q: Isquisa specializes in the “comprehensive management of chemical inputs” for the oil and gas industry. What does this comprehensive approach entail, and how does it differentiate Isquisa from other chemical suppliers in Mexico?
RE: Isquisa has developed three primary business units over the past three decades that together support a comprehensive value proposition for our clients. Our largest unit focuses on fertilizers, offering customized blends to agricultural clients nationwide. The second unit is chemical transportation, operated through our subsidiary Autoquímicos, which manages a fleet of nearly 100 units dedicated to the safe transport of hazardous chemicals under strict safety and regulatory protocols. The third unit is our Industrial business, which focuses on the commercialization and formulation of chemical products. From this perspective, we operate not only as a distributor but as a solutions provider. Our offering integrates the product itself, specialized logistics through our own fleet, timely and flexible deliveries, and tailored commercial terms. We work with both imported and domestically sourced products and develop custom blends and dilutions according to client requirements.
OM:For the oil and gas industry, our current focus is on solutions for drilling fluid formulation, while we continue to evaluate opportunities in well stimulation and remediation. We support these solutions with strategically located distribution centers across Mexico, including our newest state-of-the-art facility in Tepeji, Hidalgo, which strengthens our ability to serve central Mexico and the Bajio region efficiently.
Q: What was the rationale behind the Tepeji plant, and how will this new facility enhance Isquisa’s capacity and service offering to the oil and gas sector?
RE: This investment responds to a clear strategic vision. Central Mexico and the Bajio represent one of the most dynamic and diversified industrial regions in the country. Establishing a modern distribution and formulation center in Tepeji allows us to be closer to our clients, reduce response times, and operate with higher efficiency and safety standards.
The facility was designed to serve multiple industries, including oil and gas, petrochemicals, pulp and paper, refining, food and beverage, and automotive solutions. It incorporates specialized laboratories for advanced product analysis, including heavy metal detection, and was built under strict environmental and safety criteria, with zero external effluent discharge and multiple internal water treatment processes.
From a strategic standpoint, this plant strengthens our long-term commitment to disciplined, profitable growth while reinforcing our operational resilience and service capabilities for demanding industries such as oil and gas.
Q: With PEMEX as the dominant player, how has Isquisa adapted its strategic vision and operational model to align with PEMEX’s current priorities and investment focus in Mexico?
RE: Our strategy has been based on innovation, sustainability, diversification, and a differentiated value proposition. This approach allows us to serve PEMEX directly through its subsidiaries, as well as international service companies operating in Mexico.
OM: From an operational standpoint, PEMEX requires very high service standards, rapid response times, dedicated infrastructure, and strict regulatory compliance. Our infrastructure, including the Tepeji facility and our distribution centers in Cordoba and Coatzacoalcos in Veracruz, and Merida in Yucatan, allows us to respond swiftly and reliably.
We distribute a broad portfolio of chemical products such as caustic soda, hydrofluoric acid, sulfuric acid, nitric acid, phosphoric acid, potassium chloride, and calcium chloride, among others, in multiple presentations and tanker sizes. Our teams are highly trained to manage safe handling, discharge, and documentation processes, which are critical for serving PEMEX and its contractors efficiently.
Q: Mexico’s chemical industry faces logistics challenges and reliance on imported feedstocks. How does Isquisa’s integral logistics network and strategically located facilities help overcome these hurdles for your oil and gas clients?
OM: A key strength of Isquisa is the synergy between our business units. Our transportation subsidiary, Autoquímicos, plays a central role in ensuring reliable deliveries across the country.
Additionally, our fertilizer business unit operates import reception and formulation plants in Manzanillo, Colima; Veracruz;, and Coatzacoalcos, which we leverage for certain industrial products.
This integrated model allows us to optimize imports of key raw materials such as potassium chloride and urea, which are essential for oil and gas applications. By sharing infrastructure, logistics capabilities, and operational expertise across units, we can offer a more resilient and competitive value proposition to our clients.
Q: As a Mexican company, how does Isquisa leverage the emphasis on local content to secure contracts and foster collaboration within the domestic supply chain for the oil and gas industry?
RE: We place strong emphasis on regulatory compliance, safety, and environmental standards, and we maintain active communication with both authorities and clients. Understanding regulatory requirements for transport, storage, and handling is fundamental to our operations.
We hold several certifications, including ISO 9001, 14001, and 45001, and serve highly demanding industries such as food ingredients and water-related applications, which require strict quality and traceability controls. While not all our products qualify for Hecho en México (Made in Mexico), certain formulations, such as automotive urea, may do so in the future, reinforcing our local value contribution.
Q: What are the most significant operational or market-related challenges Isquisa currently faces in supplying chemical inputs to Mexico’s oil and gas sector?
OM: The main challenges relate to increasingly stringent safety, regulatory, and operational requirements. Handling corrosive and hazardous chemicals requires continuous training, strict compliance with transport and labor regulations, and robust safety protocols during storage and discharge operations. These areas represent our highest operational priority.
Q: In terms of logistics, especially with current road security risks, how does Isquisa manage potential challenges?
OM: Our fleet operates with 24/7 satellite monitoring and full traceability. Every shipment is tracked from dispatch to final delivery, including documentation and quality certificates. Constant communication with operators and real-time monitoring are key differentiators that allow us to mitigate security and operational risks effectively.
Q: Could you describe the composition and distribution of your clients across different sectors?
RE: Our fertilizer business focuses exclusively on agriculture, while our industrial unit is highly diversified. No single sector dominates our sales, reflecting a deliberate strategy to balance markets, products, and sourcing between domestic and imported suppliers.
This diversification strengthens our operational capabilities, as we learn from the just-in-time demands of oil and gas and the strict quality and traceability requirements of the food industry. One structural challenge we monitor closely in the sector is payment timing, particularly in oil and gas, as supplying this industry requires significant capital and infrastructure commitments.
Q: What are your objectives for 2026 within the sector?
RE: Our objectives are centered on profitable growth, continued geographic expansion, and ongoing innovation of our value proposition. We are evaluating new distribution centers in southern Mexico, including facilities dedicated to oil and gas, while continuing to invest in technology, infrastructure, and service capabilities that allow us to remain a reliable long-term partner for our clients.
Isquisa, with over 30 years of experience, distributes chemical inputs from leading national and international producers. It has strategic alliances with specialized transportation companies, autonomous pumping systems, and satellite tracking, allowing it to offer comprehensive service to its customers throughout Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean.
