Mexico Oil & Gas Summit 2020 Goes Digital

This year’s edition of the industry main-stay forum, Mexico Oil & Gas Summit, will go digital as COVID-19 concerns force the meet-up of leading industry analysts and commentators to adapt.

Mexico Oil & Gas Summit has, for the last eight years, positioned itself as one of the premier annual conferences for oil and gas professionals in Mexico. Featuring leading government, corporate and industry authority speakers, the event has become a firm fixture in the conference calendar for Mexico-focused oil and gas discussion.

The two-day event will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 28 and Thursday, Oct. 29 on an online platform and will focus on the rapidly shifting economic and industry-oriented impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Aside from the immediate virus concerns, panels will also discuss Mexico’s place in the oil and gas world stage, the critical factors that will lead to successful development of the country’s resource-rich shallow waters and supply chain resilience, among other essential issues.

Director General of Mexico Business Group Jeroen Posma, the company behind Mexico Oil & Gas Summit, said that the event would rather be digital than postponed to guarantee that necessary conversations and networking between industry stakeholders can still take place.

“As organizers of over 45 industry-leading, high-level B2B conferences in Mexico, we understand that face-to-face conferences and networking events are tremendously valuable for sponsors and attendees. Rescheduling Mexico Oil & Gas Summit 2020 from July to October was inevitable and over the past months we have realized that face-to-face conferences will not return in the near future. We are embracing the new normal and believe that the time is now to reshape the future of B2B conferences in Mexico,” said Posma.

“Our flagship conference, Mexico Oil & Gas Summit, will be held on Oct. 28-29 and will be our first completely virtual conference. In line with our reputation for excellent content and speakers, our program will of course feature the leaders shaping the future of the Mexican oil and gas industry. However, the networking experience will be entirely different. Attendees and sponsors can schedule B2B meetings based on intent-based matchmaking driven by artificial intelligence. The integration of the world's leading networking platform, combined with the expanded geographical reach of a virtual conference, will offer our participants a unique opportunity to generate leads at a time when B2B lead generation is more challenging than ever,” he added.

Other major oil and gas conferences have been suspended completely for 2020. Among them are the Houston’s Offshore Technology Conference (OTC), the IHS Markit-organized CERAweek, and Congreso Mexicano de Petróleo, which was twice rescheduled before being called off. OTC Chairperson Cindy Yielding said that the decision to call off the conference was taken with “a heavy heart.” “Our priority is the health and safety of our attendees and exhibitors.” Further afield, OTC Asia chose to go virtual, as did the Malaysia Oil & Gas Servicces Exhibition and Conference, better known as MOGSEC.
