PEMEX Reports on Pirate Attack

PEMEX reported that on Feb. 13, at approximately 8:30 p.m., a group of around eight individuals illegally boarded the Zaap-D satellite platform, part of the Ku-Maloob-Zaap Production Asset in the Gulf of Mexico.

According to the NOC, the individuals stole radio communication devices, tools, and self-contained breathing apparatuses. In response, PEMEX’s Physical Security personnel in Ciudad del Carmen coordinated with the Mexican Navy (SEMAR) to activate the General Protocol for Incident Response at Offshore and Coastal Facilities operated by PEMEX Exploration and Production.

No physical harm was reported among PEMEX personnel. However, two workers were evacuated from the platform due to possible stress-related symptoms and were transported to PEMEX’s General Hospital in Ciudad del Carmen for medical evaluation.

PEMEX has reinforced security measures in the Campeche Sound by increasing the number of Physical Security agents. Additionally, PEMEX and SEMAR have coordinated to expand patrol operations with additional vessels.
