SLB Secures Drilling Contract for Trion Development in Mexico
SLB has been awarded a major drilling contract by Woodside Energy for the ultra-deepwater Trion development project. The contract includes the delivery of 18 ultra-deepwater wells over a three-year period using an integrated services approach and AI-enabled drilling technologies.
SLB will provide digital directional drilling services and hardware, logging while drilling (LWD), surface logging, cementing, drilling and completions fluids, completions, and wireline services. The company aims to enhance operational efficiency and well quality using its advanced drilling solutions.
"With water depths of up to 2,500m, the Trion development presents challenging technical conditions for drilling and well construction," said Wallace Pescarini, President, Offshore Atlantic, SLB. "SLB has extensive expertise in ultra-deepwater drilling projects globally and advanced technologies, including AI and digitally enabled hardware, to bring these wells online safely, efficiently, and reliably. We will also leverage the strategic investments we have made in local talent and supply chains in Mexico, which will help support the on-time delivery of this project."
Operations will begin in early 2026 and will be managed through SLB’s Performance Live digital service delivery centers. The contract follows a previous award in 2023 to SLB’s OneSubsea joint venture, which is providing subsea horizontal trees, controls, and topside equipment for the project.
Woodside is developing the Trion field in partnership with PEMEX. The project is targeting first production in 2028.
