Slim Increases Participation in Talos Energy

Control Empresarial de Capitales, a company owned by Carlos Slim, acquired shares in PBF Energy and Talos Energy, according to the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). The company invested approximately US$24.2 million to purchase 923,000 shares of Talos Energy and 357,000 shares of PBF Energy at the beginning of August.

Control Empresarial de Capitales spent US$13.9 million on shares of PBF Energy, an American oil refining company, increasing its stake to 15.5%. Meanwhile, it invested US$10.3 million in growing its share in Talos Energy from 18% to 23.2%. 

Talos Energy holds a stake in the Zama offshore megafield, a site previously disputed with PEMEX. In September 2023, Slim's Grupo Carso, through its subsidiary Zamajal, completed the acquisition of 49.9% of Talos Mexico, a subsidiary of the US oil company, for US$124.7 million. Since that acquisition, Grupo Carso has actively participated in the Zama oil field consortium alongside PEMEX and other companies.

Grupo Carso has increased its participation in energy projects over the past year, especially in the oil and gas sector. Earlier this month, Grupo Carso increased its investment in the Lakach gas field to US$1.884 billion, marking a 57% increase from the initial investment announced earlier in July.
