Why Natural Gas Innovation Matters for Energy Access

Access to affordable and reliable energy sources is fundamental to satisfying social needs, fueling economic growth, and promoting human development, especially for emerging economies like Mexico. Natural gas — by far the cleanest-burning hydrocarbon — is crucial in increasing equitable access to energy.

Innovation leads to competitiveness and sustainable development in the private sector, government institutions, and nongovernmental organizations. Choosing to pursue innovation means committing to discovering and creating new ways of generating shared value. At Jaguar, we consider part of our purpose to build a brighter future for Mexico through natural gas.

But how do we do it? The National Hydrocarbons Commission (CNH) has recently authorized us to operate technology new to Mexico: a virtual pipeline that allows us to compress natural gas (CNG) from the wellhead directly and ship it to the consumers via fleet trucks. This technology has expanded the commercial viability of gas fields in rural areas: we can now bring on stream formerly impossible-to-develop resources, either because of cost or environmental impact. Moving gas via CNG and then compressing it into liquified natural gas (LNG) will allow gas to become a reliable energy source in areas where no distribution facilities are available. Eventually, we will replace dirtier fuels like diesel and bunker fuel — even wood and charcoal.

According to the International Energy Agency, natural gas has played a significant role in providing reliable energy access to “over 1 billion people” worldwide since 2000. It will continue to do so in the coming decades, enabling exploration and production companies like Jaguar to address the lack of access to energy for a vulnerable portion of the population.

We will join forces with communities and government authorities to foster sustainable development opportunities while complying with international best practices. By harnessing the power of natural gas, we will efficiently generate electricity and spark responsible industrial productivity, positively impacting society, the economy, and the environment.
