40-Hour Workweek Reform Approved. Minister of Labor Marath Bolaños announced that the labor reform establishing a 40-hour workweek will be published in the Federal Official Gazette (DOF) tomorrow, following unanimous approval by Congress and the majority of state legislatures. Bolaños stated the measure fulfills President Claudia Sheinbaum's 60th government commitment, aiming to reduce workplace accidents, improve employee health, and promote work-life balance. President Sheinbaum celebrated the consensus, saying that her administration prioritizes not only economic growth but also the creation of better-quality jobs.

Record Formal Employment in February. Zoé Robledo, Director General, IMSS, reported a record high for formal employment in February, reaching a preliminary total of 22,527,854 registered jobs. He highlighted that this marks the highest figure ever recorded for that month and the fifth-highest overall. Robledo clarified that this total currently only accounts for traditional employment; data on digital platform workers will be released on March 9, 2026, which is expected to increase the final number.

Middle East Conflict. President Claudia Sheinbaum addressed the escalating tensions between the United States, Israel, and Iran, urging the UN to reclaim its role in mediating peaceful solutions. She criticized the current dynamic in which military power overshadows multilateral diplomacy, thereby undermining the organization's foundational purpose. Lamenting the conflict's toll on civilians, specifically citing the bombing of a girls' school in Iran, Sheinbaum reiterated Mexico's stance on avoiding war and prioritizing peaceful resolutions.

Mexicans in the Middle East. Regarding the ongoing violence, President Sheinbaum confirmed that the government is in direct contact with Mexican families in the affected regions. She noted that Mexican ambassadors have advised citizens to remain in place and avoid evacuating for the time being, aligning with international recommendations, while the government continues to provide all necessary support.
