AMLO responds to President Trump´s claims about Mexico’s submission. President Trump assured during a rally that he "bent" the Mexican government by threatening tariffs to obtain the deployment of soldiers on the border. As a result, president López Obrador responded by saying that he "likes him." The president assured that he does not feel disrespected by Trump’s statements, since he knows him well.

“I like President Trump, although he is a capitalist. We certainly understood each other, which was good for both our nations.”  President López Obrador commented that Mexico is being used as an electoral ticket before US midterm elections this year. In view of the elections in the US, the president reiterated that his government “is not going to allow the US to use Mexico as a ‘piñata’” and demands respect in the bilateral relation.

AMLO addresses the failed attempt to dialogue with celebrities who oppose the Mayan Train. President López Obrador assured that the celebrities who appeared in the viral video denouncing the destruction of the jungle by the Mayan Train refused to meet with him in the National Palace, since celebrities suggested that experts and environmentalist should meet the president instead. After the cancellation of the dialogue, the president encouraged artists like Eugenio Derbez, Natalia Lafourcade, Rubén Albarrán, and others, to dialogue directly with the communities of the Mayan Riviera. The president then proceeded to show a video where ejidatarios manifest their support to the Mayan Train. López Obrador finished the subject with his promise that no ecocide is being committed by his mega project nor that any cenotes or underwater rivers would be damaged.

After the viral video showing celebrities complaining about the environmental damage caused by the Mayan Train construction, a federal judge in Yucatan suspended works in section 5 south due to the lack of environmental impact assessments.

AMLO addresses rising inflation in Mexico. Monthly reports indicate that inflation remains in Mexico.  President López Obrador announced he is working on a program to address the inflation issue. He plans to present this plan next week during his morning conference. “My concern and my occupation are to control inflation.” The president reminds that "world imbalance" caused by the pandemic and aggravated by the Russia-Ukraine war. "We will try to establish a low inflation in relation to other countries, however, it is a global phenomenon. We must return to policies that support agricultural growers to combat the adverse effects of inflation.”
