AMLO Gets COVID-19. Adán Augusto López, Minister of the Interior (SEGOB), reported that President Andrés Manuel López Obrador is quarantined after testing positive for COVID-19 for the third time. The president assured that “his heart is at 100%," and left Minister López in charge of the morning press conferences for the coming days.

On Sunday morning, the President unexpectedly suspended his tour in Merida, Yucatan, where he would have reviewed the progress of his emblematic project, the Mayan Train.

Communication With the Supreme Court. Minister Lopez highlighted that the relationship with the highest court is maintained through institutional channels, after President López Obrador ordered his cabinet not to communicate with the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN) due to a potential negotiation focused on returning the administration of the National Guard from the Army to the Ministry of Security.

During the morning press conference, the official stated that President Minister Norma Piña requested support from the National Guard, through an official letter, to protect their building from potential protesters in recent days.

BBVA and Banamex Cards No Longer Valid to Receive Government Aid. The Minister of Welfare, Ariadna Montiel, reported that BBVA and Banamex bank cards will no longer be valid for receiving government social support. She specified that for those who have BBVA cards, the deadline to replace them with a Banco del Bienestar card is April 30. Pension funds for the May-June period will still be deposited in private banks. For those who received pension payments through Banamex, the last deposit made to those accounts was on March 31, so it is necessary and urgent to update users’ information with a Banco del Bienestar card.

Banco del Bienestar cards is now being delivered and to date, 4.3 million cards from the new government bank have been issued.
