AMLO’s Son Visa Revocation / García Harfuch at DEA Summit

Repatriations to Mexico. Sergio Cespedes, Director, National Migration Institute (INM), reported that 271,193 Mexicans were repatriated from the United States between Jan. 20, 2025, and Aug. 13, 2026. Cespedes noted that 99,685 people returned via air transport and 171,508 entered via land crossings, with 95% originating from Chiapas, Guanajuato, Guerrero, Oaxaca, Michoacan, Puebla, and the State of Mexico. 

AMLO’s Son Visa Revocation. President Claudia Sheinbaum addressed the cancellation of US visas issued to Mexican political figures, describing the actions as politically motivated interference rather than legitimate law enforcement measures. Sheinbaum emphasized that any foreign allegations against Mexican citizens must be accompanied by conclusive evidence to warrant domestic legal proceedings under Mexican law. 

President Sheinbaum stated that the Attorney General's Office (FGR) has not initiated an investigation regarding Andrés Manuel López Beltrán following the revocation of his US visa. Sheinbaum confirmed that foreign visa cancellations do not constitute independent grounds for domestic prosecution, while reiterating that the administration will not protect any individual if criminal conduct is formally proven.

Economic Growth and Peso Performance. President Claudia Sheinbaum reported an accelerating economic growth trajectory supported by the Mexican peso trading below MX$17 per US dollar. Sheinbaum stated that public infrastructure projects delayed by administrative processes are entering the implementation stage in 2H26, contributing to continued economic stabilization.

Second Annual Government Report Tour. President Sheinbaum announced that she will present her second annual government report on Sep. 1, 2026, marking 23 months in office. Sheinbaum stated that the administration has begun recording official informational broadcasts and confirmed plans to conduct regional tours across all states to outline specific administrative outcomes before concluding events in Mexico City.

García Harfuch to Attend DEA Conference. President Sheinbaum announced that Minister of Security Omar García Harfuch will represent Mexico at a DEA conference in Argentina. Sheinbaum confirmed that Harfuch will present national security results on reductions in homicides and high-impact crimes, as well as models of bilateral security cooperation.
