Legal Standards for Disqualifying Candidates Facing Arrest Warrants. Arturo Zaldívar, General Coordinator of Policy and Government at the Office of the President, clarified the constitutional requirements under Article 38 regarding the suspension of political-electoral rights for political candidates. Zaldivar explained that an arrest warrant alone does not suspend rights, noting that an individual must be legally classified as a fugitive from justice through both an issued warrant and material evidence of evading law enforcement.

UIF on García Luna’s Corruption Scheme. Omar Reyes, Head, Financial Intelligence Unit (UIF), presented details on a money laundering scheme involving former Minister of Public Security Genaro García Luna and the Weinberg family. Reyes reported that the Mexican government recovered US$5.805 million through civil litigation involving a performance bond recovery and the liquidation of 12 real estate properties in the United States.

President Claudia Sheinbaum announced that the US$5.805 million recovered from civil proceedings linked to García Luna will be allocated to public schools in the Guerrero Mountain region. Sheinbaum emphasized that the funds will directly support educational facilities in underprivileged communities.

Progress Report on Ayotzinapa Investigation. President Sheinbaum met with the families of the 43 missing Ayotzinapa students to present updated investigative leads provided by the special prosecutor assigned to the case. Sheinbaum stated that the families were receptive to the findings and agreed to maintain scheduled follow-up meetings with federal authorities.
