Mother's Day. President Andrés Manuel López Obrador congratulated all mothers and, as a gift, he offered a show with the participation of artists María Inés Ochoa and Eugenia León. "I want to send my warmest congratulations to all mothers in our country, and to those abroad.”

Call With US President. López Obrador said he had a very good phone call with US President Joe Biden, yesterday.

This week Title 42, one of former President Donald Trump's toughest immigration policies, was terminated. Consequently, representatives from the US and Mexico met to agree on additional measures to regulate immigration. The new strategy focuses on combatting human smugglers and traffickers, addressing the root causes of migration and creating regional migration centers.

In March 2020, at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) endorsed the Title 42 policy, which prevents asylum seekers from applying for US protection and allows the US to send migrants to either their countries of origin or Mexico within the first few hours of their arrival. According to CDC authorities, the policy was necessary due to the increase in COVID-19 infections in the US. Since the policy's implementation, more than 1.8 million deportations have taken place, according to US government data.

2024 Presidential Elections. President López Obrador said that he does not have a favorite MORENA candidate for the presidency and that he hopes that the new president will be truly chosen by the citizens. "It is important that all candidates express themselves, so that we can get to know them. I hope that corruption, vote buying and the imposition of candidates can end. No more soap operas.”

In 2024, presidential elections will be held on June 2. According to a Reforma poll, MORENA is in the lead with 47 percent of the voters’ support. Meanwhile, PAN has 19 percent of the vote, PRI 18 percent and Movimiento Ciudadano 6 percent. MORENA's favorite presidential candidates are Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard and Mexico City Mayor Claudia Sheinbaum.
