Canadian Prime Minister Visits Mexico

Queretaro-Irapuato Passenger Train Construction Begins. With President Claudia Sheinbaum witnessing via video link, federal and state officials announced the start of construction for the Queretaro-Irapuato passenger train. The launch event took place in Apaseo El Grande, Guanajuato, with Minister of Infrastructure Jesús Esteva, Queretaro Governor Mauricio Kuri, Guanajuato Governor Libia García, and the Director of the Rail Transport Regulatory Agency, Andrés Lajous, in attendance.
The project consists of a double-track spanning 33km, with four stations and two terminals. The train is expected to reach speeds of 160-200km/h. The project is projected to create 1,518 direct and 8,255 indirect jobs and is expected to benefit more than 10,000 people.
USMCA Consultations. President Sheinbaum stated that the upcoming review consultations for USMCA are a required component of the treaty itself, not a new development. She explained that while the formal negotiations will begin next year, the law requires this consultation process for all three countries.
Canadian Prime Minister Visits Mexico. President Sheinbaum announced the agenda for her meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney. She stated the discussion will cover USMCA, direct bilateral trade between the two nations, investments, and work visas for Mexicans.
Sheinbaum detailed that she will receive Prime Minister Carney and members of his cabinet at the National Palace for a meeting with her and her cabinet. This will be followed by a joint press conference and a subsequent meeting with Canadian and Mexican business leaders.
