CFE. The Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) announced that from December 2018 to April 2021, electricity consumption rose 8.6 percent, to which President Andrés Manuel López Obrador said that, “if CFE is strengthened, we will not have energy supply problems. People have been deceived.” This was in reference to the criticisms that have been made regarding the energy counter-reform, since it has been said that CFE cannot supply the country’s entire energy demand. López Obrador’s administration has emphasized strengthening CFE and national oil giant PEMEX over the private sector regarding the country’s energy needs.

Cartel involved in Chihuahua dam protest. AMLO mentioned that members of the Jalisco Nueva Generación Cartel were involved in the demonstration that took place in 2020 and curtailed the delivery of water from the La Boquilla dam to the United States. It is believed that, “in the Chihuahua movement, there were people linked to those who operate in Jalisco in crime,” and it is being investigated, he said.

Weapons regulation. López Obrador said that he expects U.S. President Joe Biden to send an initiative to Congress to regulate the sale of arms. “We are very aware of the proposals of President Biden in the sense of controlling the commercialization of arms, many of which are introduced into our country. I hope it goes to Congress as an initiative to regulate the production and distribution of weapons.”

Tulum security. After the minister of public security (SSP) made the decision to take control of the Tulum municipal police, López Obrador said that this appeared to be the correct decision. “It is a competence of the state government. I have been informed that they intervened and that the state police are in charge of security in Tulum,” said López Obrador.
