Citi’s Banamex Share Sale. President Claudia Sheinbaum confirmed that Citi has sold a new stake in Banamex. “They are selling a small percentage to different buyers. Some are Mexican investors, others are international and global funds. It is better to have that division among different shareholders rather than a single one.”

2026 World Cup Security. The president stated that Mexico meets the necessary conditions to ensure security during the 2026 World Cup. “The cabinet meeting has been scheduled. I hold sectoral cabinet meetings to follow up on all programs. All guarantees are in place for the World Cup. There is no risk.”

The president added that federal authorities are coordinating efforts to restore normal conditions in Jalisco and Michoacan following road blockades reported after the death of Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, known as “El Mencho.”

“I spoke with the governors of Jalisco and Michoacán. Classes were suspended today, but the goal is to normalize activities tomorrow. At Guadalajara airport, most flights have resumed, and operations in Puerto Vallarta are gradually returning to normal. Most importantly, our objective is security and peace, working under the four strategic pillars we have established.”

Electoral Reform. Sheinbaum reported a meeting between lawmakers from MORENA, the Labor Party, and the Green Party to review a proposed electoral reform initiative that will be introduced in the coming days.

“We have a proposal based on principles we have always defended. It is important for people to understand this because there is already criticism of a reform that has not even been presented. Minority representation remains, proportional representation continues to exist, just in a different way. Anyone who wants the popular vote must go into the communities and seek it directly. Anyone who wants to be a representative must earn the public’s vote; it cannot be based on party lists. That is the proposal we are putting forward and it will be formally presented tomorrow.”
