President Claudia Sheinbaum’s approval rate reached 81% seven months into her term, according to El Financiero. This approval rating marks a slight decline from March’s 83% and is four points lower than February’s 85%, the highest figure recorded in the past three decades by this survey.

Sheinbaum also saw her disapproval rating rise to 18%, up from the consistent 15% observed over the previous three months. The poll was conducted via telephone interviews with 1,100 adults between April 3-7 and 24-28. The poll has a 95% confidence level and a margin of error of 3.3%.

Government social programs received the highest approval, with 83% of respondents expressing support. The economy followed with 74% approval and 20% disapproval, while public safety garnered 57% positive ratings and 37% negative. In contrast, perceptions of her performance in addressing corruption were more divided, 39% rated it positively while 52% viewed it negatively. The area where Sheinbaum received the most criticism was her approach to organized crime, with 61% disapproval versus 35% approval.

The poll was conducted amid uncertainty over tariffs recently imposed by US President Donald Trump and tensions between both governments. Notably, for the first time this year, a greater share of the population viewed the relationship between Sheinbaum and Trump favorably.

Half of respondents described the bilateral relationship as “good” or “very good,” compared to 37% who considered it “bad” or “very bad,” representing a shift from previous months when negative perceptions prevailed.

Regarding recent US government migration ads aired on Mexican media, 45% of those polled reported seeing them. Meanwhile, 64% believe such ads should be banned, while 28% think they should be allowed.
