Cuban doctors/AICM incident

Cuban doctors. President López Obrador reported that during his tour throughout Central America and the Caribbean he established an agreement with Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel to hire more than 500 Cuban doctors for what he considers a deficit of specialists in Mexico. The president said that during the neoliberal period medicine students did not receive government support causing a shortage of general doctors and specialists.

Moreover, he notified Cuban vaccines against COVID-19 will be purchased for children who are older than two years because they have had good results.

AICM incident. Yesterday, at the International Airport of Mexico City (AICM) two planes almost crashed at landing strip number 5. There is a video that went viral in social media where the pilot receives authorization to land at an airstrip that is being occupied by another aircraft that was about to take off. The Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications and Transport (SICT) informed that the authorities are investigating the incident of approximation registered at the AICM. 

Moreover, Rogelio Pons, Deputy Secretary, SICT, reported that in order to clarify the case they accepted the resignation of Víctor Hernández Sandoval, General Director, Services for Navigation in the Mexican Airspace (SENEAM).

Due to the incident, the Mexican president is asking airlines such as Aeroméxico, Viva Aerobus and Volaris to increase their number of flights to the Felipe Angeles International Airport (AIFA) in August. Before December, Aeroméxico is supposed to have 36 routes leaving from the AIFA.

Unity of the Americas. During the Summit of the Americas President López Obrador will recommend that the entire continent be united aiming to create an agency similar to the European Union. He sustained that despite possible differences and discrepancies between countries no country should be excluded and he called for a dialogue to reach an agreement between the nations of the American continent.

“We have to look to the south and pursue an economic integration. We want the Americas to be united like the European Union.”
