Decline in cases expected next week. President López Obrador said that according to projections by experts, a reduction in COVID-19 cases is expected by next week in the states most affected by the pandemic. He called on the people to act accordingly and to continue observing social distancing. “Let’s not relax our discipline. According to projections by experts, in a few days, by the middle of next week, the most affected sites will start to see a decline,” he said. The president warned that if mobility increases and people start ignoring safety measures, that could negatively affect the outcome.

School cleaning and checks. Minister of Public Education (SEP) Esteban Moctezuma said that prior to re-opening schools, a cleaning process will be carried out in all facilities. “We are conducting a cleaning process. It is possible to prevent the virus from surviving,” he said. Moctezuma said that a health and safety check will be implemented in schools, but that the most important check takes place at home. “We are going to ask families to check on the temperature of their kids, to see if they have any symptoms. At the school, there will be another health check,” he said without giving details.

Newspapers are famous but unethical. After several outlets questioned the accuracy of the COVID-19 figures in Mexico, suggesting a poor handling of the health crisis, President López Obrador said famous international newspapers are liars. “There is a crisis not just because of the decline of the economy. There is a crisis also due to the lack of ethics in the handling of information. The world's most famous newspapers lie and slander. The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Financial Times, El País are very famous, but unethical,” he said.

Applauds good relationship with teachers. After congratulating all teachers, President López Obrador said his government has fulfilled all its commitments to the public education system by canceling the education reform approved by the previous administration. Despite several railroad blockades carried out by unionized groups, the president said that during his administration there has not been any conflict with unions.

Environmental contingency in Mexico City. President López Obrador said Mexico City Head of Government Claudia Sheinbaum is already addressing the environmental contingency problem recorded in Mexico’s capital city, and said she is a true expert on the subject.
