COVID-19. Minister of Health Jorge Alcocer announced that vaccinations of teachers and non-teaching educational personnel would begin next Tuesday in five states. Hugo López-Gatell, deputy minister for prevention and health promotion, also clarified that the CanSino vaccine would be administered to educational personnel because of the advantages it offers; in particular, only a single dose is required. López-Gatell also said that schools in the five states might reopen on May 15.

Arturo Zaldívar. President Andrés Manuel López Obrador said that he agrees that the mandate of Arturo Zaldivar, president of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN), should be extended until 2026. “It is a decision taken by the senators. Now, that initiative will go to the Chamber of Deputies and it will be discussed and approved if necessary. I have confidence in him; I consider him a man of integrity, an honest person.”

Third COVID Wave? López-Gatell warned that Mexico “is not exempt from a third wave” of COVID-19. Some countries are already experiencing a fourth wave. “Mexico is also in that situation, it is undesirable,” said López-Gatell. “I hope it does not happen, but it can happen.”
