'El Marro' arrest takes 15 minutes. The arrest of José “El Marro” Yépez was carried out in only 15 minutes, Minister of Defense (Sedena) Luis Cresencio Sandoval said about last Sunday’s raid in Guanajuato against the elusive leader of the Santa Rosa de Lima cartel. Sandoval said the whole operation lasted four hours, but it took only 15 minutes for Yepez to surrender thanks to intelligence work that identified four houses he was using to avoid sleeping two consecutive nights in the same place. After being shielded by locals several times to avoid his arrest, Sunday’s operation was carried out at 3:45 a.m. and 45 minutes later, a helicopter flew the cartel leader away. Sandoval said more than 1,000 officials from the Army, Navy and the National Guard participated in the operation.

Call for judges to do their work. Minister of Defense (Sedena) Luis Cresencio Sandoval called on judges to do their job and enforce the law against José “El Marro” Yépez. “I would also like to take this opportunity to call on law enforcement authorities and judges, both at the state and federal level, to fulfill the responsibility they have now,” he said. President López Obrador supported Sandoval and also called on those involved in processing El Marro to act with integrity.

Meeting with governors in 10 days. President López Obrador announced that in 10 days he will have a face-to-face meeting with all governors in San Luis Potosi. “I was with the new (Governors National Conference) CONAGO president and I promised to meet with all governors in San Luis Potosi in 10 days,” he said. The president highlighted that he is always open to dialogue after nine governors called on him to remove Deputy Minister of Health Hugo López-Gatell and change the federal strategy to face the COVID-19 pandemic.

National Guard removes directors. Two National Guard directors were relieved from their duties given their links to former federal security head Genaro García Luna, Minister of Security (SSPC) Alfonso Durazo said. He explained that officers with ties to García Luna are being removed from their positions after the former minister was arrested. He is being investigated for alleged links to drug cartels.
