Electoral Reform. Claudia Sheinbaum stated that the electoral reform bill she will send to Congress will not be altered regarding the proportional representation list system. Sheinbaum clarified that the reform proposal does not eliminate proportional representation. Instead, it modifies the method used to select proportional representation lawmakers while preserving balance in the Chamber of Deputies.

"There may be those who disagree, but we are not going to shift our position on the lists. If some parties oppose it, that is their right, but I am fulfilling a commitment I made during the campaign,” she said. "What we are proposing keeps the distribution intact; proportional representation does not disappear. There will still be 500 deputies: 300 elected by district and 200 assigned according to each party’s percentage of the vote."

2026 World Cup. Sheinbaum thanked FIFA for reaffirming support for Mexico’s role as a World Cup host, despite recent violence. "Beyond what happened on Sunday, including the tragic loss of members of the armed forces and a civilian woman, what matters is that efforts are underway to restore normal conditions. There was a wave of misinformation across Mexico. Even The New York Times reported on the volume of inaccurate international coverage that did not reflect what was actually happening in the country."

Tourism in Mexico. Tourism Minister Josefina Rodríguez reported that Mexico’s tourism sector expanded by 6.1% in 2025, exceeding pre-pandemic figures. "I want to share how tourism is performing globally: it grew by 4%, meaning 1.5 billion tourists traveled worldwide. In the Americas, Mexico grew 6% compared to 2024, placing us above the global average."

Rodríguez also unveiled new measures aimed at strengthening air connectivity and promoting Mexico as a global tourism destination. "In the coming months we will launch additional routes, which will begin operating this semester. We have announced 32 new domestic routes and, importantly, 22 new international routes. Mexico is connected to the world, and we will continue expanding month by month."
