Health System in Campeche. The plan for improving the public health system in Campeche will be implemented today, in an effort to guarantee the population’s right to healthcare. “We are touring the southeast and, in addition to supervising the progress of the Mayan Train, we decided to hold a security meeting, this conference and to improve the public health system in Campeche,” said Andrés Manuel López Obrador. Health centers, rural medical units, hospitals, general practitioners, nurses, specialists and medicine supply are expected to be benefitted.

Violence in Zacatecas. López Obrador highlighted that previous governments were the cause for the appearance of criminal groups now wreaking havoc in Zacatecas. He detailed that his government has been making progress in containing the violence in the state through the deployment of the Army, but more work needs to be done in this regard. This announcement was made after the murder of Judge Roberto Elías Martínez and the attempted escape from a prison in Zacatecas.

National Electoral Institute (INE). The president emphasized that “we must fight to cleanse INE from bias” after Mexico City Governor Claudia Sheinbaum was ordered to disassociate herself from the campaign in her favor for the 2024 elections. López Obrador made it clear that he did not reach the Presidency in 2018 through INE but through the vote of the people, calling the electoral counselors “sold-out referees.”

Based on these declarations, the president stated that INE “does need to be touched” since constant changes must be made to electoral laws. His administration will send a “Plan B” for an electoral reform to Congress on Tuesday morning, Dec 6. “It is an initiative to reform the electoral law. PRI and PAN will not vote for our proposed constitutional reform because, as they and many others maintain, INE is not to be touched.” The Mexican President detailed that, among the main adjustments to electoral laws, INE’s budget will be limited and vote buying will be further controlled.

Government Airline. López Obrador announces that the government’s new airline, to be named “Mexicana de Aviación,” will be operational by the end of 2023 in conjunction with the Mayan Train.

Airport Control. The president announced that the Campeche and Ciudad del Carmen airports will be controlled by the Ministry of Defense (SEDENA) and the Navy (SEMAR). “SEDENA will be in charge of Campeche, because of the Mayan Train, and the Navy of Ciudad del Carmen, as they are in charge of the Campeche sea and the oil region of our country,” said López Obrador.
