Gulf Contamination. President Claudia Sheinbaum has deployed a cross-agency task force. drawing from the ministries of Environment, Navy, Science, and Energy alongside PEMEX, to respond to an oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. The group is working on three fronts: halting the spread of contaminants, pinpointing the origin of the spill through satellite-based scientific analysis, and channeling financial relief to affected fishing communities.
"We are working on the Gulf contamination through three areas: containing any spill and contamination as we have from the first moment, identifying the second are the sources of contamination, we are working with scientists so that, based on satellite images, they give us more information, and support for fishermen through Bienpesca, which has the registries of the area that could have been contaminated; they will be given support of MX$15,000 (US$842.06)," Sheinbaum said.
Estadio Banorte Connectivity. The president announced that a meeting will be held next week with Mexico City authorities to address access and connectivity issues that arose during the reopening of Estadio Banorte during the Mexico vs. Portugal match.
"The City Stadium had some problems that we already know about. We are going to have a meeting next week to resolve some problems that arose at the Azteca Stadium game, some problems at the stadium entrance, connectivity around the stadium, and internet connectivity. We are going to support the City government so that there is greater connectivity for visitors. It is going to be a good moment for Mexico; many tourists will arrive and they will take away a very good image of Mexico," Sheinbaum said.
Mexicana de Aviación. General Leobardo Ávila, Director, Mexicana de Aviación, reported that the airline has sold 1,022,670 tickets and transported 953,624 passengers since beginning operations two years ago, maintaining a 95% customer satisfaction rate across 14 destinations and 19,912 flight hours.
"At two years since beginning operations, Mexicana is currently consolidating itself in a national market with commercial and operational growth. From a commercial standpoint, we have sold one million 22,000 tickets and transported 953,624 people. From an operational standpoint, we have 19,912 flight hours. Mexicana has a presence in 14 destinations. It is not only flying, but strengthening the future of our country's air connectivity," Ávila said.
International Tourism. Sheinbaum reported that international visitor arrivals rose 10% in January 2026 compared to the same month in 2025, while tourism revenue grew 3.9% during the same period, ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2026.
"There are 10% more international visitors comparing January 2025 with 2026 and the economic spillover grew 3.9% in January, which is not precisely a month of very high occupancy. We are going to see how we close, we are going to close very well," she said.
