Meeting with US Ambassador and Lawmakers. President Claudia Sheinbaum described her recent meeting with the US Ambassador to Mexico and members of Congress as cordial and constructive. The discussions focused on Mexico’s security strategy, the impact of tariffs on bilateral relations, and the recent US legislation on digital currencies.

Supreme Court Inauguration. Sheinbaum expressed her willingness to attend the swearing-in ceremony of the new Supreme Court justices on Sept. 1, which coincides with the presentation of her first annual government report. “If invited, I would be glad to attend. It will be a historic day for the new Court,” she said.

On June 1, Mexico held a historic national election in which, for the first time, citizens voted to elect 2,681 judicial officials at both the federal and state levels. Despite a modest voter turnout of 13%, the election marked a key milestone in the country’s democracy. Early official results confirm that Hugo Aguilar, a lawyer of Mixtec origin, is set to become the next president of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN). Aguilar will assume the presidency of the Supreme Court on Sept. 1 for a 12-year term, succeeding Justice Norma Piña and ushering in a new era for Mexico’s highest court.

SEP Distributes Nearly 140 Million Free Textbooks Nationwide. The government announced that the distribution of free textbooks across Mexico is progressing rapidly, with nearly 140 million copies already delivered. This includes special editions such as Braille and large-print books, while deliveries for telesecundaria (distance secondary schools) are just beginning.

“We are well advanced in distributing free textbooks. Almost 140 million copies have been delivered. By Sept. 1, when the school year begins, all textbooks will be in place. Primary and secondary books are 100% distributed, and kindergarten books have reached 97%,” say authorities.
