Mexico–Cuba Flights. President Claudia Sheinbaum said air service between Mexico and Cuba remains uninterrupted and that aircraft refuel within Mexico, dismissing claims about a possible halt in operations. She explained that there are no restrictions on flying to the island and that planes depart from Mexico with the fuel required for the trip.
This week, some international airlines announced they will suspend service to Cuba after the Havana government indicated that aircraft will no longer be able to refuel at the island’s airports, amid a deepening fuel supply crisis.
Sheinbaum also noted that aid drives are being organized to support the Cuban population, although no official shipment has been sent yet. She added that the Ministry of the Interior will set up a coordination channel so organizations collecting supplies can work with the government and use available capacity on official transports.
Security Meeting in the United States. Sheinbaum reported that the heads of Mexico’s Ministry of Defense and the Navy are currently in the United States for a meeting convened by US Northern Command, alongside delegations from multiple countries. She said the gathering is focused on dialogue and coordination rather than policy positioning.
Measles Outbreak. Mexico is currently reporting 6.7 measles cases per 100,000 inhabitants. Minister of Health David Kershenobich highlighted the use of face masks for people showing symptoms as a preventive step during the outbreak, while noting that masks alone are not sufficient to stop transmission.
He therefore urged the public to keep their measles vaccinations up to date, describing the disease as highly contagious and capable of infecting many people from a single case. Kershenobich explained that the virus can remain airborne for hours and often begins with flu-like symptoms before the characteristic rash appears. He also stressed the importance of seeking medical care and avoiding self-medication, adding that vaccination remains the most effective tool to contain the spread.
