New Deputy Minister of Security/SEDENA to protect Mayan Train

New Deputy Minister of Security. President López Obrador announced Luis Rodríguez Bucio as the new Deputy Minister of Security and David Córdova as the new commander of the National Guard (GN). The appointments come after Ricardo Mejía Berdeja renounced his position as Deputy Minister of Security to run as governor of Coahuila.

Ricardo Mejía Berdeja hopes to become Coahuila’s government representing the Partido del Trabajo (PT) next June.

SEDENA to deploy 5,000 soldiers to protect the Mayan Train. The Army and the GN will deploy 5,000 troops to supervise the Mayan Train´s route as well as protect the wagons in order to provide safety to the project which is set to be inaugurated December of this year.

According to Defense Minister Luis Cresencio Sandoval, the GN and the Airforce will be in charge in providing safety to the project with battalions specialized in railway safety and tourism.

In addition, Cresencio Sandoval reported that the Airforce will have helicopters flying around the Mayan Train’s route to respond to any incident.

AMLO supports Omar Mejía as Deputy Governor of Banxico. President López Obrador said he favors the proposal to name Omar Mejía Castelazo Deputy Governor of the Bank of Mexico (Banxico).

On January 11, Congress´ Permanent Commission welcomed the president’s proposal to ratify Omar Mejía as Deputy Governor of Banxico in substitution of Gerardo Esquivel whose time in office ended December 31.

According to the Ministry of Finance (SHCP), the candidate has 20 years of experience working in monetary policies analysis, public and banking finance, government administration and infrastructure projects.
