Meeting with the US and Canada. President Andrés Manuel López Obrador said there were no arguments or claims at the North American Leaders Summit (NALS), saying the summit had a friendly tone.  “I am very satisfied with the meeting. We reached several agreements such as the elaboration of groups to define a plan for greater economic integration. Despite what the domestic and foreign media write, we all get along very well.”

The summit is commonly known as the meeting of the “three friends” and is normally organized yearly. During this year´s summit, economy, migration, drug trafficking, clean energy and regional development were the major topics discussed. In addition, the three leaders agreed on the creation of a joint committee that will focus on import substitution in North America, while making regional economic development and cooperation a reality for all countries in the Americas.

National Guard to supervise  Mexico City Metro. President López Obrador stressed that according to a survey of 4,401 metro users, the National Guard is needed at the Mexico City Metro. “People do want the National Guard supervising the Metro. Those who talk about militarization are either ideologically charged, or they have problems with us."

Last week, President López Obrador lashed out against organizations criticizing the presence of the National Guard (GN) in the Collective Transport System (STC) metro after last week’s train crash in Line 3. The president said the GN´s duty is to protect the people from harm and avoid major tragedies from happening. Nonetheless, the Attorney General's Office  (FGR) said there are no claims that these accidents have been intentionally caused. Moreover, metro users agree with claims from members of the National Union of Subway workers who say the problem is the lack of maintenance, materials and equipment in the subway’s system.

Patria vaccine. Deputy Health Minister Hugo López-Gatell declared that the Patria vaccine is an example of the country's ability to develop health solutions.

Mexico is developing its own COVID-19 vaccine called “Patria,” which is currently in its final phase of clinical trials to test its effectiveness as a booster for those who already have a complete vaccination scheme. The Patria vaccine was created by  the Mexican government, the National Council of Science and Technology (CONACYT) and Laboratorios Avimex. The vaccine has been approved in the preclinical and Phase 1 and pPhase 2 clinical trials in humans, which were made under the supervision of the Federal Commission for the Protection against Sanitary Risks (COFEPRIS).  According to CONACYT, the Patria vaccine is safe and generates an important immune response in those with previous immunity and provides protection as a booster shot.
