Only officials with affinity. After the National Council to Prevent Discrimination (CONAPRED) head Mónica Maccise resigned, President López Obrador said that it was the right decision for people like her, who work in his administration but have no affinity with his project. He will propose an indigenous woman as her replacement since they are the most humiliated group in Mexican history.

AMLO orders El Chapo’s son’s release. President López Obrador said that he personally requested the release of Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán’s son, Ovidio, after a botched arrest in October 2019 in Culiacan. López Obrador said he spoke with US President Donald Trump about the situation, and that releasing the son of the drug lord, who is serving prison time in the US, was a decision made to save the life of civilians. “Relations with the US are based on cooperation but also on respect. Although it seems incredible that the one who setting the example is President Donald Trump,” he said. The US was expecting to extradite Ovidio, who is seen as a leader in the cartel his father built.

No proven crime in Morelos. Regarding the Financial Intelligence Unit (UIF) investigation into claims that Morelos government officials mishandled funds, President López Obrador said UIF head Santiago Nieto did not find any irregular procedures. “An investigation has been carried out, but no crime or alleged crime has been found,” he noted during his daily briefing, held in Morelos, the final stop of his week-long road tour. Former footballer and Morelos Gov. Cuauhtémoc Blanco called on the people to work together with the president, since differences only generate confrontation.

Crime is down. Homicides, feminicides and kidnapping numbers are trending downward, Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC) Alfonso Durazo said in his monthly security report. “There has been a very significant drop in kidnappings. The national anti-kidnapping commission is playing an extraordinary role in coordinating with all state units,” he said.
