Investigation on CIA Agents in Chihuahua. President Claudia Sheinbaum stated that an ongoing investigation into the participation of CIA agents in an operation in Chihuahua concerns a potential violation of the National Security Law rather than political persecution. Addressing allegations from the Governor of Chihuahua, Maru Campos, regarding political harassment, Sheinbaum advised Campos to file an official complaint if experiencing threats, clarifying that no legal action targets the governor directly.

Nayeli Salvaroti and Grace Palomares’ Discriminatory Comments. President Sheinbaum addressed internal disciplinary procedures initiated by Morena against local deputies Nayeli Salvatori and Grace Palomares following discriminatory comments regarding senior citizens on a podcast. Sheinbaum affirmed that her administration opposes all forms of discrimination regardless of political affiliation, noting that Morena internal governing bodies will determine appropriate sanctions for the legislators.

INE Budget Proposal. President Sheinbaum characterized the proposed 2027 midterm election budget requested by INE as excessive. Sheinbaum noted that an additional request of MX$15 billion (US$870 million) lacks justification, stating that operational costs for the 2027 comicios should align with 2024 presidential election spending adjusted for inflation through 2027.

Pope Leo XIV Invitation to Mexico. President Sheinbaum confirmed plans to re-extend an official invitation to Pope Leo XIV to visit Mexico during an upcoming meeting with Vatican Secretary of State Pietro Parolin. Sheinbaum highlighted that beyond religious representation, the pontiff offers critical perspectives on digital platform regulation and artificial intelligence (AI) as outlined in his recent encyclical.

National Reforestation Program. President Claudia Sheinbaum, Minister of Environment Alicia Barcena, and Minister of Agriculture Columba Lopez introduced the National Reforestation Day initiative scheduled for Aug. 9, 2026, across all 32 Mexican states. The inaugural event will deploy 235,097 participants to plant 6,686,390 trees in forests, jungles, and Protected Natural Areas, advancing toward a long-term goal of planting 1.5 billion trees nationwide by 2030.

Housing Delivery in Queretaro. Governor of Queretaro Mauricio Kuri, Minister of Agrarian, Land, and Urban Development Edna Vega, and Octavio Romero, Director General, Institute of the National Housing Fund for Workers (INFONAVIT), delivered 126 housing units in Prados San Juan, Queretaro. The delivery forms part of 16,740 homes under construction in the state, representing a MX$21.1 billion investment and a 35% completion rate toward the six-year regional development target.
