Historic Investment in Medical Equipment. Deputy Minister of Health Eduardo Clark unveiled a strategic plan to acquire 816 high-tech medical devices in 2026, representing an investment of MX$11.25 billion (US$652.6 million). The equipment, which includes 500 mammography units, 238 CT scanners, and 25 linear accelerators, will be distributed among public institutions, with IMSS receiving 341 units, IMSS-Bienestar 237, and ISSSTE 178. Clark noted that Mexico City, the State of Mexico, and Jalisco will receive the highest volume of equipment to strengthen diagnostic capabilities.
IMSS Confirms Record Medical Equipment Purchase. Zoé Robledo, Director General, IMSS, confirmed the institute executed its largest single purchase of medical equipment in history, investing MX$1.74 billion to acquire 123 specialized units. These devices, which include 67 mammography units and 42 CT scanners, will be installed in 96 hospitals across 26 states and are scheduled to become operational in April 2026.
ISSSTE Infrastructure Expansion. Martí Batres, Director General, ISSSTE, detailed an infrastructure plan comprising 241 projects aimed at vulnerable regions. The strategy involves the construction of 200 new consulting rooms, 13 hospitals, and 14 family medicine units to bridge service gaps in underserved communities.
Community-Led Health Improvements. Alejandro Svarch, Head, IMSS-Bienestar, reported on the progress of the La Clínica es Nuestra (The Clinic is Ours) and Salud Casa por Casa (Home by Home Healthcare) initiatives. He highlighted that 42,425 infrastructure improvement actions have been carried out across 8,483 health units through direct community participation and funding from the Ministry of Well-Being.
Sheinbaum Defends Oil Shipments to Cuba. President Claudia Sheinbaum backed the decision by PEMEX to ship crude oil to Cuba, characterizing it as a sovereign and humanitarian measure to alleviate fuel shortages caused by the long-standing economic embargo. She emphasized that Mexico maintains a historical policy of solidarity with the island and that specific logistical decisions remain within PEMEX’s operational authority or the government's humanitarian discretion.
Sheinbaum Demands Reciprocity on US Arms Control. President Sheinbaum called for greater reciprocity in bilateral security efforts, urging the United States to ramp up arms seizures to prevent trafficking into Mexico. While acknowledging recent successful confiscations, she argued that just as Mexico combats drug trafficking, the United States must do more to stop the illegal flow of weaponry across the border.
Voluntary Surrender of Canadian Fugitive. President Sheinbaum addressed the detention of Canadian citizen Ryan Wedding, confirming that he voluntarily surrendered at the US Embassy in Mexico City. She stated that the Mexican government accepts the official account provided by US authorities and the Ambassador, seeing no reason to question the report.
Mexico Analyzes Trump’s Gaza Peace Summit Invite. President Sheinbaum confirmed receiving an invitation from US President Donald Trump to participate in a peace summit regarding the conflict in Gaza. She stated that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE) is analyzing the request to ensure the official response aligns with Mexico's constitutional foreign policy principles, particularly the right to self-determination. Sheinbaum noted that Mexico recognizes Palestine as a nation and will provide a formal answer in the coming days.
