Santa Lucia Visit/Migration Policies

Santa Lucia Airport. Yesterday, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador flew from Mexico City to the Santa Lucia Airport to inaugurate the air base there. At today’s daily briefing, he talked about the visit and the project. “It was quite an event because in a very short time there has been much progress. It is the most important airport under construction in the world, the largest, with the most advanced technology, with first-rate quality standards.”
Tamaulipas. AMLO again addressed the case in which 16 people were found burned inside a vehicle in Camargo, Tamaulipas, among them a minor. “There will be no impunity for anyone and we are maintaining a constant relationship with the victims’ relatives and with the Guatemalan authorities … That border where these events took place has seen many conflicts, (although the case) was not very close to the border, it was more bordering with Nuevo Leon, but that entire region is very violent. There is even talk that it is like a territory that is permanently disputed between two gangs.”
US migration policy. The president mentioned that the migration policy in the US had not yet changed under the new administration of President Joe Biden. “Everyone cannot just go to the United States and be regularized; there is still no specific definition. Even deportations are continuing as they were under the previous government, the same number, because it is not possible, it must be understood, to modify an immigration policy from one day to the next. Do not be fooled by human traffickers.”
Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador. AMLO expressed how much he feels for these countries that do not have access to vaccines against COVID-19. “We have to think about our fellow men and in a world without borders, where justice prevails.”
