Sargassum Containment Strategy. President Claudia Sheinbaum announced a US$2 billion federal allocation to address sargassum arrivals along Quintana Roo beaches via expanded containment barriers and harvesting operations. Minister of the Navy Raymundo Morales outlined a four-part containment strategy encompassing open-water harvesting, anchored coastal barriers, beach collection, and industrial recycling. 

Sebastián Ramírez, Director General, National Fund for Tourism Development (FONATUR), noted that public and private initiatives are processing collected biomass into biofertilizer, biochar, and biogas under a circular economy model. Governor of Quintana Roo Mara Lezama and Minister of Environment Alicia Bárcena announced that Cancun will host the Global Gateway Sargassum Conference on Oct. 1 to 2, 2026, co-funded by the EU and involving Caribbean and international partners.

2Q26 GDP Performance. President Sheinbaum reported INEGI data showing a 1.5% quarterly GDP expansion in 2Q26, representing a year-on-year growth of 2.5%. Sheinbaum attributed the economic expansion to increased volume and pricing in the primary sector, specifically gold and silver mining, alongside sustained performance in the tertiary services sector and stabilization in manufacturing output.

Audience Rights and Broadcasting Consultation. President Sheinbaum defended ongoing consultation guidelines regarding audience rights, stating that the regulatory framework does not constitute censorship. Sheinbaum emphasized that current administrative policy guarantees freedom of expression and relies on official rights of reply rather than direct interference with media leadership or editorial lines.

Support for Cuba Will Not Stop. President Sheinbaum affirmed that Mexico will maintain humanitarian assistance and support for Cuba, framing the policy under constitutional principles of self-determination and national sovereignty. Sheinbaum reiterated opposition to commercial blockades, noting that Mexico's diplomatic stance toward Cuba has remained consistent for 64 years.
