Sheinbaum Nominates Encinas as Ambassador to OAS

LPG Tanker Explosion. President Claudia Sheinbaum stated that victims of the gas tanker explosion on the Puente de la Concordia in Iztapalapa have the option to access a reparatory agreement if they choose to do so. She explained that this option exists within the legal framework and that the Attorney General's Office is responsible for establishing the legal terms of such agreements for the victims of the accident.

The president confirmed that the investigation into the explosion is being handled by the Mexico City Attorney General's Office. She also announced that new federal regulations for the transport of LPG will be released soon.

Alejandro Encinas Nominated Ambassador to OAS. President Sheinbaum proposed Alejandro Encinas as Mexico's permanent Ambassador to the Organization of American States (OAS) in Washington, DC, on the evening of Sept. 29, 2025. The Senate is scheduled to vote on the appointment today, Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2025.

Commenting on the nomination, President Sheinbaum described Encinas as a great colleague and confirmed that she had asked him if he wanted the position, to which he agreed.

New Law on SIM Card Sales Control. President Sheinbaum announced that a new law is being developed to control the sale of cell phone SIM cards.

She explained that this is part of the national strategy to reduce the crime of extortion. The law will include measures requiring telephone companies to restrict calls originating from prisons and mandating that citizens provide official identification to purchase a SIM card.
