Advances in Pasta de Conchos Rescue. The Ministry of Labor has confirmed the recovery of 13 miners’ remains from Pasta de Conchos. Marath Baruch Bolaños, Head, Ministry of Labor, presented a report on the Pasta de Conchos Miners’ Rescue Plan.

So far, the remains of 13 miners have been recovered, with the following status:

Labor Reform Secures Rights for Digital Platform Workers. Marath Baruch, Minister of Labor, highlighted that the labor reform to ensure dignified working conditions for affiliated workers was designed in coordination with digital platforms.

Over 650,000 people work for digital platforms, mainly as delivery drivers. Of those, 252,000 earn above the minimum wage. The reform aims to provide benefits without disrupting workers’ schedules, say authorities.

The reform aims to guarantee several workers rights, including access to social security services (IMSS and INONAVIT), medical care, maternity leave, accident protection, retirement, and daycare services. The reform also aims to protect these workers from unfair dismissals, provide transparency in algorithmic decisions, and give workers freedom to organize their work.

Key implementation dates:

  • June 22, 2025: Reform takes effect.

  • June 27, 2025: IMSS publishes insurance rules; Ministry of Labor sets guidelines for net income.

  • June 27, 2025: Launch of the mandatory pilot program.

  • December 2025: Conclusion of the IMSS pilot program.

Sheinbaum Confirms Talks with Canada and Other Countries Over Trump’s Tariffs. President Claudia Sheinbaum confirmed that she held initial discussions with the Canadian government and other unspecified countries regarding Donald Trump’s proposed tariffs. Ahead of a possible call with Trump this Thursday, Sheinbaum stated that “there will be no submission” from Mexico in its dealings with the United States.

She added that if circumstances require, Mexico will seek agreements with Canada and other nations to address the situation. “We will wait for the call. Yes, we are engaging with Canada and other countries. This is a decisive moment for Mexico — there will be no submission. Mexico is a great country,” stated Sheinbaum.

Sheinbaum Highlights Price Increases at Best Buy and Target Due to Trump’s Tariffs. Sheinbaum stated that Donald Trump’s tariffs will primarily impact the United States in the short term. She pointed out that the first effects are already visible, as major retailers like Best Buy and Target have announced immediate price increases due to the tariffs.

“Yesterday, large stores like Best Buy and Target said they would raise prices immediately because shifting supply chains is not something that happens overnight,” Sheinbaum stated.

She emphasized that US retailers will continue buying from Mexico, but now with an added 25% tariff cost. She added that these tariffs are not exclusive to Mexico and described China’s response to US trade measures as “very strong.”
