States Will Be Held Accountable / Construction Companies RejectedBy Ricardo Guzman | Fri, 05/29/2020 - 12:12
States will be held accountable. States will have control of all health and safety measures and will be responsible for the reopening process after the new COVID-19 traffic light officially starts next Monday, Deputy Minister of Health Hugo López-Gatell said. “States will be responsible for establishing the corresponding opening for activities that meet the aforementioned criteria,” he stated. The announced “new normal” will start in Mexico with all entities facing a red traffic light, or “high risk,” with the exception of Zacatecas. López-Gatell said that the epidemic was far from over and would last for several more weeks. “Just as we have said before, the epidemic in Mexico has yet to complete several transmission cycles in different parts of the country,” he said.
Most construction companies are rejected. Only 6 percent of construction companies have had their request to resume activities validated, while 85 percent of mining companies have successfully completed the process, IMSS head Zoé Robledo reported. He said over 15,398 companies in the automotive, construction and mining sectors have requested the official validation to resume operations on June 1. “From May 18 to May 31, the ‘new normal' platform was implemented, which is a self-assessment mechanism for companies,” Robledo said. He detailed that only 6 percent of 5,397 construction companies were validated, while mining approvals reached 85 percent and automotive 75 percent.
Back to school on Aug. 10. Schools will start again for basic education on Aug. 10 but before that, a personalized remedial course will be implemented for all students, Minister of Public Education (SEP) Esteban Moctezuma said. He explained that the remedial course, needed to assess the level of all students and determine possible lags, will last three weeks and with alternate attendance to maintain social distancing among applicants. The new school year 2020-21 will start in September, Moctezuma said.
President plans national tour. President López Obrador detailed the agenda for next week’s presidential tour, and said he expects to visit all states. “We are going to visit all the states of the Republic beginning on Monday,” he said. Given the traffic light is on red across the country, the president will travel to Cancun by car, where he will hold five public events on Monday. The tour schedule includes visits on consecutive days to Merida, Campeche, Palenque, Villahermosa and Coatzacoalcos, mostly for security meetings and to drop starting flags for Mayan Train construction works. Visits to the Dos Bocas refinery project and the Minatitlan refinery, as well as another starting flag for the Isthmus Train modernization, complete the schedule.
