Universal Health Credential as National ID. President Claudia Sheinbaum announced that she sent a decree to establish the Universal Health Service, allowing any citizen to receive care at IMSS, ISSSTE, or IMSS-Bienestar regardless of affiliation. Central to this strategy is the new Universal Health Credential, which will begin registration this April for seniors aged 85 and older. Beyond medical access, this document will serve as an official national identification starting in 2027, complementing the INE card for government and private sector transactions. Deputy Minister of Health Eduardo Clark added that a dedicated mobile app integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) for digital consultations and medical records will accompany the rollout.
Investigation Into Sonora Clinic Deaths. Minister of Health David Kershenobich confirmed that the Federal Commission for Protection Against Sanitary Risks (COFEPRIS) is investigating the deaths of six patients in Sonora following the administration of intravenous vitamins and stem cell serums. While the clinic and physician held valid licenses, preliminary evidence suggests bacterial contamination leading to sepsis. Samples have been sent to the Salvador Zubirán National Institute for specialized analysis, and the facility has been closed. Authorities noted that despite having a physical clinic, several treatments were illegally administered in private residences.
Response to UN Committee on Enforced Disappearances. President Sheinbaum challenged a recent report from the UN Committee on Enforced Disappearances, requesting that the body expand its analysis to include the administration's 2025 actions. She argued that the Committee incorrectly groups voluntary absences, such as family disputes, with enforced disappearances. She emphasized that her government does not tolerate state-sponsored crime and defended the current strategy for cross-referencing registries to locate missing persons accurately.
Resolution of Highway Blockades. The federal government reported that dialogue has successfully led to the lifting of most highway blockades by farmers and transporters. As of today, only three active points remain, two in Guanajuato and one in Baja California, where alternative routes have been established to maintain the flow of cargo and passengers.
